BT Releases Laptop Symphony (Black Hole Recordings) Compilation May 14th

BT RELEASES LAPTOP SYMPHONY (BLACK HOLE RECORDINGS) COMPILATION MAY 14TH

NEW YORK, NY (April 30th, 2012) – GRAMMY® nominated electronic musician, technologist and composer BT unveils his two-disc LAPTOP SYMPHONY (Black Hole Recordings) mix compilation on May 14th (digital) and June 11th (physical), 2012, globally. A face-melting, mind-altering collection of pristinely mixed tracks evocative of BT’s live shows of the same name, LAPTOP SYMPHONY is a must-have release for discerning EDM (electronic dance music) lovers. Disc-one is a snarling, growling assemblage of the nastiest, most sonically vicious dubstep, electro and breakbeats; disc-two is a victorious team of trance hits reimagined for today’s world-weary festival-goer.

Disc-one kicks-off with BT & Adam K’s “Tomahawk,” a blistering tune that’s been demonizing dubstep and electro-friendly shows across North America and Europe, before mainlining into Savoy’s “Kili” and then Wolfgang Gartner’s “Menage A Trois,” the latter a brutally syncopated aural assault. BT demonstrates that American bass music is alive-and-well, and that there’s an entire universe of exquisite electro-dubstep beyond Skrillex; annihilating pieces like Xilent’s “Choose Me II” and Porter Robinson & Lazy Rich ft Sue Cho’s “Hello” are perfect examples. Track after scorching track on disc-one, BT lays forth his master plan for moving bodies with heavy bass and obese beats not meant for the weak-of-heart. The filthy production and hypnotic staccato stabs of DJ Spoko & Mugwanti’s “Mugwanti” linger in the air long after they’re heard, and just before the breaks-laden ecstasy becomes unbearable, BT transitions to disc-two with the angelic vocals of JES on Cosmic Gate’s “Flying Blind.”

Disc-two opens like a dream, with richly hued, idyllic landscapes drifting past. Stop to listen, really listen. It’s in these otherworldly dimensions of audio utopia where BT’s magic lives. Time stands still as waves of unspeakable beauty waft over the listener with delicious melodies embedded in tunes like Andrew Bayer’s “Counting The Points” and BT’s own hit single “In The Air” with Morgan Page and Sultan & Ned Shepard ft Angela McCluskey. Dare to daydream to Aurosonic & Ange’s “Without You”, until BT ft Kirsty Hawkshaw’s “A Million Stars” jolts you from your reverie with Hawkshaw’s heavenly vocals. Harmonic synths get hands in-the-air on Ashley Wallbridge’s “Vision,” and BT keeps the euphoria flowing straight into Arty’s remix of Ferry Corsten’s “Punk,” a classic track aged like a fine wine. When mashed with Swedish House Mafia’s “Save The world,” the result is a monster with a life of its own! BT then drops Allure (a moniker of Tiësto) ft Christian Burns’ “On The Wire” before segueing into his own killer track with Tiësto, “Love Comes Again,” with BT on vocals. The piece-de-resistance is BT’s timeless anthem, the impossibly gorgeous “Flaming June,” reworked by BT for this release.

Born Brian Transeau, BT is a Berklee College Of Music-trained platinum-selling artist who counts Claude Debussy and Igor Stravinsky among his musical influences. BT has scored major motion pictures including Go, The Fast And The Furious, Stealth, and the Academy Award® winning film, Monster, starring Charlize Theron. BT is as respected by music’s contemporaries as he is revered by fans, and friend and colleague Armin van Buuren was quoted to DJ Times, saying, “BT is to dance music what Mozart was to classical music.” The artists who have commissioned BT over the years for remix and production work read like a who’s-who of the music world, including: Madonna, Peter Gabriel, Sting, Britney Spears, Seal, Sarah McLachlan, Tori Amos and others. BT’s groundbreaking studio albums become high-watermarks to which other EDM musicians aspire. They are: Ima, ESCM, Movement In Still Life, Emotional Technology, This Binary Universe and These Hopeful Machines, the latter nominated for the 53rd GRAMMY® for “Best Dance/Electronic Album.” BT’s proprietary Stutter Edit® production and performance software is today available from iZotope Inc.

Update on New Music Releases (Part 2 of 2)

Followup to Part 1

Dear All thank you for the great questions about my two new releases "Morceau Subrosa" and "If the Stars are Eternal so are You and I"

Samples here for you to check out, download and share with more to come! Http://www.soundcloud.com/bt

Instead of it being lost at the bottom of the last thread I've decided to respond as a new post.

Rich I responded to your questions mainly because you seemed to sum up everyone's questions perfectly. They are awesome thank you!!

Also this has made me realize something: how about I do an IAM on Reddit for you guys?

1. More news on a possible one off TBU live gig. This is a go. Will post details shortly. This will happen only once (for now) at a festival this summer in America. Wow, even I am freaking out about this.

2. The entirety of ITSAESAYAI is composed by yours truly (Like This Binary Universe). There are lots of upcoming collaborations on my EDM album and obviously All Hail the Silence!

3. I embark on musical composition the same every time; which is beginning from an active place of silence and listening. Composing to me often feels like an "unveiling" as opposed to an active creation process. Detail work (ie Sound design, micro editing, contrapuntal work, orchestrating etc) feels like an active creation process. I could riff on this question for hours. When I complete a composition I find what "basket" to put that particular egg in. Sometimes this is the most difficult part of the process.

4. In this way ITSAESAYAI is different to TBU. There is an expression of intense study of modern bass music in this release that is going to (in a good way I hope) blow your collective minds. Many of you know from listening to my #Laptopsymphony radio show on Sirius Area that i am very inspired by this music and I play lots of it live and on this show. Growing up with Break Dance music/culture and being a breakbeat kid myself; any and all things bass continue to inspire and excite me. In fact, in modern EDM culture I find this to be the highest current expression of procedural sound design application,

Structurally ITSAESAYAI shares the TBU aesthetic but With the augmented and additional experimentation with my current EDM "studies". For example The Gathering Darkness is in a way the complimentary book end to Le Nocturne de Lumiere (much in the same way Godspeed is to Flaming June). Also there is a surprise in one of these compositions that is face melting that I don't want to spoil. More on this later :)

5. I don't think although its become a popular thing to claim, that most EDM producers have any true modicum of experience or undstanding of classical music culture and or composition. Not that this is a bad thing, but nonetheless true. So to answer this question possibly more from the EDM community will collaborate with more traditional modernist classical composers. Possibly. From a personal vantage point, I am becoming increasingly obsessed with writing more traditional (in instrumentation only) orchestral compositions. Over the next 10+ years expect to hear a lot of this from me.

6. And lastly my phone number is #partyhack More of this to come for sure :)

Let's do a Reddit Iam!
Best,
_BT

Some more information on upcoming releases! Firstly there are 2. Both are 7 compositions and this is where the similarity ends!

The first release is unlike any other album I have released. It's release date is (TBD) aprox end of April. It is entitled "Morceau Subrosa" it's close to an hour of electro-acoustic music and ambience that while it's approach is academic (Lots of Csound, Kyma, Max/MSP and granular and spectral operations applied gratuitously to world instruments) retains a sense of tonality and purposefulness. It short, it's beautiful music without beats. It's intended purpose is mindful meditation, to listen to before bed or in bed with someone you love. Think M83 time-stretched. There is one composition from it currently on my Soundcloud you can listen and DL a high-res for free here : http://tinyurl.com/NichtMusic

The next album release date Mid-May (TBD) is follow-up to This Binary Universe. It's called: "If the Stars are Eternal so are You and I"

Some of you have asked about Surround and Videos. I am releasing these two albums in stereo although there may be surround versions of these in the future. There is a visual piece we are creating with an astonishing space photographer that is literally going to blow your minds. It is for the piece "13 Angels on my Broken Windowsill". It is a really special journey this composition. I literally can not wait to share it. An example of ITSAESAYAI can be heard here: http://tinyurl.com/OurDarkGarden

Oh and the fantastic I Wrote This For You has done stunning artwork.

Announcements will be made over the coming months about my upcoming EDM release (Follow up to "These Hopeful Machines") and my band with Christian Burns "All Hail the Silence". Keep it on topic and I'll try to answer questions here!! Big year of music coming from me, I'm beside myself with joy to share.

All my very best,
_BT
